Derek Pierce is Principal of Casco Bay High School, which has been an innovator in Expeditionary Learning.  The school's curriculum revolves around Learning Expeditions - long-term, in-depth studies of a single topic that explore vital guiding questions, incorporate standards, involve fieldwork, and culminate in a project, product or performance. Mr. Pierce was formerly the principal and Dean of Faculty at Poland Regional High School. He has taught English, theater and American Studies in schools from Los Angeles to Gorham. He has lived in Portland with his family since 1993.  He has earned a BA from Brown, and an Ed. M from Harvard.
